THE ASIAN NAIL SALON FROM HELL

So I decided to take my acrylic overlays off of my nails today , and was surprised to find my normal salon closed for the day. So I take a trip to the "flat lands" and tried out a nail shop that I often pass by when going to the beauty supply store. Now, Im no uppity chick, but I was seated at the station by the window only to see the biggest spiderweb on earth. The shop was "slow" and one of the nail techs was happily picking the calluses off hand with a cuticle nipper.  My mind was racing at this point, saying "get the hell outta here", but it was either have the worst looking hands on earth or go through with this dare of a nail visit. The towel that my hands were rested on had so many paint spots the shade of the rainbow that it almost looked like the towels intentional pattern.  YUCK ! The woman who did my manicure was accommodating, by placing a heater near me because I was freezing but that didn't quite make up for lack of a sanitary working environment, and her tip reflected that. SMH .. Now lastly is the bathroom. Now I'm like most people, I typically don't use bathrooms at random places, and this was the prime example why. The bathroom door didn't have the ability to close completely. Imagine my ass in the air, squatting, aiming, holding the door closed ,while trying to hold my purse in the other hand.  I take from this what has been the case in most instances, sometimes your forced to patron stores and businesses in more affluent areas to receive quality and excellent service, the hood has the hook up and the low low price, but at this point in my life, I will pay the additional $15-20  and be comfortable and CLEAN.  When was the last time you really looked at the nail salon you go to ? Im going back to DIY forreal.

  1. That's why I do my own nails or have one of my niece's to do them for me. You are more patient then I am. As soon as I saw the nastiness, I'm bookin out.

  4. i definatly agree..reason i went natural is because i was sick of how the dominican hair salon, closest to my house, was treating me...i have always wonder why there were so many domincan owned hair salons and chinese owned hair salons in black communities.. they don't really know how to take care of us..

  5. LOL! I went to a nail place here in Maryland where I had to do the exact same thing in the bathroom. I bought a manicure set after that.

  6. Price is only an issue in the absence of value!!! Like you, I value not getting a staph infection so I always go to the 'nicer' neighborhoods whenever I can't get my nails done at my normal spot, even though I do pay a little more. A friend of mine almost had to get a finger amputated from a infection she got from poorly sanitized implements. Luckily she's a little bit of a hypochondriac and went to the hospital at the first sign something was amiss!!!

  7. This is the exact reason why I have been going to the same nailshop since high school! I haven't been getting my nails done lately because I've been doing them myself, but that place you wen to is bogus as hell! lol

  8. That's horrendous!! The nail salon I go to is clean 9d/10 and I feel very comfortable. If I walk out my house for a Pedi and they are close, I will quicker go home than go anywhere else.

  11. I'm late but I had to comment. I swear this sounds like something I could've written. I've had the same experiences. In my city there are soooo sooo many triflin, dirty nail shops like the one you described. I've been to just about all of them and there's always something wrong that makes me not come back; either moldy ceiling tiles, no heat in the winter, pedicure massage chairs that don't work, girls getting into fights in the salons...its a mess. Thats why I stick to doing my own nails.
