HAIR TO KINKY FOR "WASH & GO" NATURAL HAIR

Caught up with  the fascination that my nappy hair could be "washed and go'd" but now I just see the style as "not for MY kinda hair".  Many newly natural women with afro-textured hair are surprised that their hair had ANY curls at all, because all they knew was the cotton they saw in the mirror after water hit their hair. Once hundreds of "How to define your Curl "videos and blog posts started surfacing, frustration from women who couldn't get results were usually woman with tightly coiled and cottony hair. I've gone back and forward with myself, trying to co wash and slap goo gobs of gel in my hair and feel confident with my hairstyle for the day. I always ended up looking like I have a puffy jherri curl.  Ladies, let's be honest is some hair too kinky to just wash and go? I think so. Some black women just insist on forcing their hair to do something that doesn't come with ease.  In my honest opinion, for some the fixation and obsession  stems from the African American's communities praise  f loose curls or softer textured hair and it's characteristics. I suffer the most tangling and matting from wash and go hair styles because of the inevitable shrinkage. However, not all coily hair is the same, so there is no point in using the hair typing system to identify who would or shouldn't WNG, but results don't lie.  If your hair  doesn't want to clump and separate with the  use of product, then styles that create texture like twist outs, braids outs, and flat twist outs are your friend and enhance the beauty of kinky afro- textured hair.

Wash & Go - Just because it can be done, it doesn't mean it should be !   :O)

Twist- out with flexirods on the ends: This helps get my hair smooth and stretched.

Flexirods or Perm Rods are a kinky hair chicks best friend. Great voluminous hair and smooth ends.

  2. Yes girl, i'm glad it isnt only me. Even whenever my hair is wet, i have no or very little curl pattern. Im scared to try that eco styler gel bc my hair will get very dry. Any suggestions?

  3. If you can rock a wash-n-go and not pay a hefty price for it, do you...I'm just not into the clean-up afterwards. My hair responds better and lasts longer between washes when I braid or twist it so I'm sticking with what works for me...Be Blessed!

  4. My hair is kinky/coily. I think wash and gos are a waste of time for me in terms of trying to define a curl but i love just washing and going with no product. I made it through the summer just fine doing that with no issues with tangling. I don't know if I'll be able to do it next summer because I'll have more hair to deal with.

  5. I like your wash and go. Who says a wash n' go should always produce curls and clumping? I like all types of textured hair and as long as it's shaped and styled right for a person's own unique hair texture I say rock the wash n' go and be damn proud.

  7. It saddens me to see many new naturals, heck even seasoned ones become product junkies trying to get results of another natural. Like you said, NO TWO COILY HAIRS ARE THE SAME, and I say this all the time. My hair is mine and yours is yours. I learned a long time ago that I do not have a curl pattern and I didn't go searching hell and high water to find one. Learning your hairs behavior and personality can save on a lot of frustration and money. Hair is an individual just like you are.

  8. Cosign Lena's Blend. I love your wash-n-go's! I do not think wngs are exclusive to loose curls or curly hair at all! Whatever the texture rock it and love it.

  9. My curl pattern does not work well with wash n gos even though I love the idea of just washing my hair and going. :( Being a new natural I am not sure if (since my hair is still short) the major srinkage that turns me off or the extreme tangles that turn me off the most. I have been hoping that as my hair grows wash n go will be more present in my future but my hopes aren't too high ...yet lol. I have mainly been sticking with twist and braids, besides it saves ALOT of time. I would argee that some hair textures aren't made for wash n gos and some are. It took me awhile to realized that my hair is not going to turn out like those on YT or other blog sites because we are two different people. I believe that the best thing about becoming natural you get to learn your OWN hair and use tips from those on YT/blogs to make styles your own.

  10. I'm not really a fan of wash n go's for myself. I have tried it once and though my hair did curl up (very tightly)...I just was not a fan of the look on me. Maybe once my hair grows out more I may venture into it again. Plus I don't like all the mess you have to deal with putting product on your hair. It's just too much for me right now..LOL.

  11. I couldn't agree more. For me, a wash n' go is a wash n' NO. I have no problem with that. If I'm craving "out" hair, I'll rock a braidout and look good doing it.

  12. Personally, i feel as though wash and go's are a waste of product and money. One could easily buy flexi rods which are by far cheaper than a big pot of eco styler gel. AND the flexi rods last waaaay longer then a tub of gel....I'm just saying. lol xox

  13. I really like your wash n go. But honestly I haven't done it because I'm not confident that it'll look good on me. My curl pattern is similar to the YT video you posted here. I'm good with my twist-outs for now. I'll probably try a bantu-knot out this week.

  14. I've seen alot of WNG on alot of women and they look really good on them, but for my life and too don't get the same results...My hair is more wavy then anything, and I've tried but I just don't like it! I think that you're on to something with WNG not being for everybody.

  15. @WindRider That is how I feel. I think that I get too much shrinkage, therefore too many tangles to bother. It never fails though, someone with beautiful natural hair inspired me to try again

@Stephanie I don't have problems with the Eco Styler gel, it does give a firm hold, but a creamy leave in, or oil helps

@JBoogie I love a good braid out too

@Kim so do you think that the wash and go works better because of the shorter length . Ive done a wash in go my first year and I really liked the look, not its just too much tangling

@Lena's Blend You have a point there, I just think that the look and feel of the hair matter. I think that if you hair feels like crap to the touch then its not such a good idea. I may have a change of heart come summer lol

    @Luckeyme I have the same problem . :O(

@Nefertiti You betta work them twist and braid outs

@Nyanewel I love my ole school Twist n Curl with flexrods. I get the cutest results using rods
