YOU'RE NOT NATURAL IF YOU WEAR WIGS

So I have been catching up on some Facebook and blog threads about weave and wig wearing natural hair women . The debate will continue and never die, just as long as there are orthodox, and intolerant people.  Vlogger PhillyDiva19154  did her  second big chop, and since, has been harassed by the OPINIONS of others. A women went as far to say " she isn't natural, but chemical-free because she dons a wig from time to time. As a vlogger who makes public their hair, fashion and diet choices people will have opinions, and take things that YOU do personally. If a woman wants to do ANYTHING different to their natural hair it's her prerogative.  The stuff that I feel like saying about the "natural hair community" may have my in an alley fighting somewhere, so I will keep it clean. There are far too many opinions and less support, which is why I started my youtube channel.  If a Black woman wants to rock a fade, twists, afro, weave, wigs, bald, or braids that's the beauty and versatility of out hair and we should all support that.   For some women it's JUST hair, and for others its much more. Like PhillyDiva says Agree to Disagree! What do you think? Is a natural hair woman still natural if she wears wigs, or is she just "chemical- free"?

  1. You know where I stand! There hasn't been..is not..and will never BE a rule book for having natural hair! Each natural haired woman has the right to write her own rules for her hair! The problem in the natural hair community is we always feel a need to segregate things..rather it be hair length, product usage, hair type...the list sadly goes on and on! You can't tell another woman what she has to do to be natural, that's up to her. This isn't a sorority, or social group, or even a fab, it's a lifestyle that women all across the world are embracing! It's embarrasing that no other "beauty" community on FB, Twitter, or even YT have these types of "rules" and divisions!

  2. I think people are crazy and if a woman wants to wear a wig or a weave she still has natural hair. You don't see women gettin' all up in arms over braid extensions or yarn braids...what's the difference between those and weaves? I don't get it...

  3. ‎Kirstin The divisions seems to be even more prominent with the increase of women going natural. There are so many resources, and views on it and unfortunately some women get sucked in the the BS and politics of it all . To me its JUST hair, but then again after you've done the "natural" thing for so long, its not all about learning, discovering and researching anymore. The more women with natural hair become 100% comfortable with their decision, and their hair the less people will be sooo concerned with what OTHERS are doing to theirs. You know what, with all of the divide my hopes is that we individuals come to a place of peace with the woman and person they are. So what if you natural, if your a straight up BIOTCH !!!

  4. chemical free means something is void of chemicals....chemicals are man made...if something has not been changed chemically then it is said to be in its natural state...so uh yes chemical free equals natural.... :)

  5. People are just silly. It seems as if they have to have something to complain about. There are bigger problems in life than this......seriously people grow up and put that energy into helping someone in need!!

  6. I agree with Kristin, there is no rule book regarding what natural hair is or isn't. For me "natural" is simply rocking the naturally curly hair God gave me regardless of what color I choose to have it or what products I have in it. Some people may disagree, but that is the beauty of my hair--IT'S MINE! I say if it is not on MY head then I am not the one to judge.

  7. In my opinion, she is natural because she has no chemicals in her hair...whether she chooses to wear a wig or whatever, it doesn't change the state of her natural hair...people need to get a life..ITS HER HAIR!!!! SMNH (Shaking my nappy head)...LOL

  8. Im new to the whole transition to natural hair & I rock wigs. If your hair from your roots to your end have NO chemicals in your hair then u are Natural. I cant stand all this division; weather your gay, christian, black, or natural theres gonna be a sense of division .

  10. I can remember being told I needed a relaxer as kid cause my Nappy hair was considered unacceptable. Now I decide to wear my hair chemical free I'm still not acceptable? With or without a weave, braids or a wig, I'm only validated by Me and no one else. I wish someone would have the audacity to tell me I'm not natural cause I wear a wig! I may be tempted to slap a Dark N Lovely relaxer in their hair! Joking! Lol! Just being silly.. But do you get the point of how stupid and silly this debate is? Some people just don't have much else to do other than to put others down.. I mean get a grip, It's only hair.. whether it grew out of my head, or it was placed on my head, It's Mine Thank You. Sheesh!

  11. I don't understand why someone would say she isn't natural because she chooses to wear wigs and weaves sometimes. It's just ridiculous! Some people just take this "natural hair movement" a little too far.

  12. It's ur head do with it what u wanna do. I can't tell u how to rock ur do. Look bottom line it's her head. I take natural to mean no chemical press aka relaxers, perms etc. So what if she adorns wigs, weaves, or whatever as long as she did not put chemicals on her hair to to change the natural state then I say she is naturally Philly Diva.

  13. THIS is why I LOVE you channel and blog! You keep it 100! I just don't get why people care sooo darn much about what OTHERS do with THEIR hair. I go to blogs and vlogs for tips, product reviews, and hairstyle ideas. I don't get why people take the time to make my comments like, "Does it bother you that the color has changed your curl pattern?" Obviously not...she is still coloring her hair.

All these natural hair rules, natural vs. relaxer, you're not truly natural unless you let your hair grow into one huge knotted dreadlock is so annoying. I wish people would just get over themselves. There are much more important things to be concerned about. Like the world economy, climate change, the high black, male incarceration rate, etc etc. Being natural, does not make you down for the cause nor does it make someone than thou.

Ok. I'm done now. I had to get that off my chest.
I don't even wear weaves or color my hair, but I do put heat on my hair when I feel like it...and I'm just over all the rules and criticism.

  16. Some people are dumb and have utterly NOTHING TO DO! My question to women or men who "claims" to be ALL NATURAL is WHY are you worried about the next woman or man and WHAT they do with THEIR hair. I really encourage natural nazi's or "purest" to look up the word "natural"....they will find that they will NOT fit the description stated AND they need to take science 101. Once you at a element to another element it changes, thus making a different and NEW element. Come on now..... lol If it wasn't for wigs n braids....Ida BEEN combed my hair out, not having patience or the zeal for wanting to deal with my hair in its natural state. I can understand the nazi's sides just because I have been effected by permissible simulation and I broke the chains. However, being offensive, disrespectful OR judgmental of the next man or woman is NOT going to help them or MAKE them see what you see. In the words of Digital Underground "DOWUTCHALIKE".

  17. I believe women w/ natural hair are free to do whatever they like and switch up like relaxed sistas. Me being a person that will go natural, then relax, be long/short and wear wigs and weaves I have no preference and express myself depending on how I feel as long as I have healthy strands period.

  18. Basically, what it comes down to is that it's a woman's prerogative to wear her hair in any way she desires and feels confident with. It's all beautiful! Just be who you are. You are not your hair and it doesn't define who you are. It [your hair] can make a statement, but never one louder than you as an individual can make. It's all love people! (^_*)

  19. Call me slow....cause I don't get how wearing a wig or weave on top of your natural chemical free hair makes you less of a natural than the woman who chooses not to wear either one......hmmmm if I wear a scarf or a knit hat or some other kind of covering on my head makes me unnatural too ???

  20. The word “natural” is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as non- artificial, disguised or altered. People who cut the hair low, wear braids, extensions or even wear a wig are simply using various styling techniques to achieve their hair goal. How one chooses to style or cover their hair whether natural or relaxed is a personal preference and I say to Ms. PhillyDiva19154, “you rock!”

  21. Correct me if I'm wrong... PhillyDiva19154 didn't ask for other people's opinions. To answer your question: I believe that a natural hair woman is still natural if she wears wigs. x

  22. Whatever PhillyDiva19154 or anyone else wants to do to their hair is their business. Wigs and Weaves are just accessories and I'm all for embracing it and expressing yourself.

I also believe a person has natural hair as long as they haven't permanently relaxed their kinks/coils/curls.

    Happy New Year!

  23. I'm just over these natural hair community people or whom the hell ever telling me or someone else how there hair should be.. I'm sick of it, and I don't bother to read about it or listen to it. To me wigs are protective styling, and that's all.

  24. Funny, I was just thinking the other day that I never expected to see so much negativity when it comes to the natural hair community. I mean if a woman expresses frustration with her hair she is basically crucified with not being satisfied with what God gave her. It's crazy!

  25. Thanks for chiming in ladies. I didn't go natural for the approval of others. I don't know where these people get off talking about others decisions. That is the one gripe that I have against most natural hair site/forums because they seem to just be places for people to remain anonymous and talk major crap . No Bueno

I can totally understand why Philly says that she is over it

  26. @Moxie Reviews Your right she isn't asking for opinions, but everyone has them and don't need permission to us them. It's poor behavior on those who talk down to others for their hair choices SMH

  27. It is both! Natural hair can come in different looks and styles for all the different hair textures and styles preferences! No chemicals (i.e. relaxers and the like) equals NATURAL regardless of how the styles appear or whether it grew out of scalp or not! It is sad that some people are so narrowly focused! Seems like some naturals do need to work on the internal as much they work on their external.

  28. i read that to be truly natural would be to do nothing to the hair at all, of course you would look like a homeless crazy person, so women especially have to do all sorts of things to their hair. the black community is the only ones making a big thing about this issue, other races, chemically treat, dye, add weave, etc to their hair. the prob with us is that for some the hair may be hard to maintain and sometimes we wear some awful fake looking hair. staying away from the chemicals may help the body in the long run though. but wearing extensions gives us a break from having your hand in your hair all the time.

  29. i mean who cares. i loveeeee the women with natural hair even though im relaxed as a matter of fact some of the products they use shyt i try it myself. why take it so seriously it just hair ladies. be happy and know your hair is enhances your beauty but it doesnt defined YOU!
