FIRST TIME JUICER EXPERIENCE

Stoked and ready to start a 10 day juice challenge, my "fine for summer time" mission begins.  It's been said, "The way you start, is the way you finish", I didn't start strong. I had a cheese burger for lunch. "Hey, I'm human! "I went to Target, only to find the juicer out of stock. Luckily Wal-Mart was near by . I picked up the GE 800 watt juicer for $49.00. I'd read several consumer reviews and it was recommended for first time juicers. Enthusiastic to start I picked up a bag of Gala apples, celery, carrots, pears , and fresh ginger.  The machine had only four removable parts, and was simple to assemble. The machine was quite noisy, but powerful.  The verdict: I got a decent amount of juice; the spout on the juicer is awkwardly short, dripping juice is inevitable; and you WILL have pulp. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't produce pulp free juice, but that can be remedied with an annoying, additional step of straining. Paint straining bags from the hardware store is recommended by fellow juicers. Other practical options include, cheesecloth, coffee filters, pantyhose and muslin.

Happy Juicing!!!!

  1. Thanks for the tip on straining. I'm going to try it because my current strainer isn't getting it all out. I HATE pulp.

  2. @Ann I hate it too, can we say GAG . To tell the truth I used a stocking knee high, worked like a charm. However I do wonder if there is any risk because of the die to the fabric. *shoulder shrugs* I live on the edge :O)

  4. Welcome to the world of juicing. I owned the jack lalinae juicer in the past. The base broke and I ended up with another lailane nicer that I hated. My son brought me the Breville juicer which was 149.00, but I used my bed, bath and beyond 20% coupon and got the juicer for around 120.00. I love my Breville and I am enjoying making green lemonade and all sorts of juices. The Big book of Juices and Smoothies, by Natalie Savona is an excellent juice recipe book. The Juice Lady's Turbo Diet has juice recipes in it also. Also check out Juice Fasting and Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz. I joined the challenge also and yes I have failed, but we pick ourselves up and keep going. Good Luck on your journey. :)

  6. Watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and juice 2 times a day. I received a juicer as a white elephant gift, but eventually purchased the Breville Juice Fountain Elite. It is more pricey, but no pulp and you get the more juice from each piece of fruit and so the higher price eventually pays for itself. Go to the website www.jointhereboot.com. Its the companion website to the movie. They have several programs, ranging from 7 to 15 days, all written out that you juice 2-3 times a day and eat a plant-based meaL. Juice recipes and the meal recipes. The green lemonade is awesome! I add extra lemon because I like the tart flavor. People do it, but I would have a hard time just going to a juice fast. Plus it can make you sick if you're not used that kind of diet. Having said that, beware of too many beets. Good luck.

  10. I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and have been doing green smoothies for about 2 months now. I couldn't afford to get a juicer so I use my Ninja blender instead. Its not the new fancy one but it works just fine. I started off with blending 1 apple, 1 cucumber, celery, ice and a little water. My 1st thought was this was going to be gross but it tasted good and smelled like cucumber. This past weekend I upgraded to kale, spinach, apple, frozen strawberries and a little water. It was extremely green but tasted really good. That reminds me I got to stock up on more veggies and fruit.

  11. @Bolovgod I read great reviews on the Brevile, but it wasn't in any the stores that were close to me :O( Maybe one day I will upgrade.

@Goddess I read horrible reviews on the Jack Lalane, I was thinking about getting that one because I ASSUMED it would be good, because of the person who endored it. You would think it was going to be quality

My favorite juice combo: (apples & pears) and my favorite juice and vegetable combo includes: apples, oranges/grapefruit, celery, cucumbers, and carrots. Love it. I can juice everyday :o)
